Among many employers, a telecommuting option no longer became an option but a requirement in order to quickly safeguard employees from the potential spread of the virus. Speakers
Matt Horton is a director at the Milken Institute’s Center for Regional Economics and California Center. In this capacity, he interacts with government officials, business leaders, and other key stakeholders in directing statewide programming and policy initiatives. Horton’s programmatic work identifies a variety of financial tools, public policies, and collaborative models that leaders can deploy to increase investments in education, community development, housing, human capital, and place-based economic development. Previously, Horton worked for the Southern California Association of Governments, the nation’s largest metropolitan planning organization. There, Horton served as the primary point of contact for external and government affairs, coordinating regional policy development with elected officials as well as sub regional, state, and federal stakeholders. In this role, he developed plans with leaders across Southern California to address growth, build resiliency, and improve quality of life.
Amber Schiada is a Senior Director of Research and Strategy,
leading the Southwest Research platform and contributing
to the development of thought leadership for the firm. She
specializes in economic and demographic analysis, industry
trends, and real estate forecasting. Amber frequently advises
occupier clients on site selection with an eye toward macro- economic trends and workforce feasibility. She also has extensive experience working with investors of all commercial property types, advising on market and investment strategies.
Amber regularly presents her insights at industry events for
organizations including ULI, NAIOP, BOMA, and CoreNet
Global. She’s been cited in national and local media,
including the Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times,
CNBC, GlobeSt., and KTVU.
Experience:
Amber began her career in 2001 with Rosen Consulting
Group, first as an intern, and then as a Research Analyst
producing quarterly economic, residential and commercial
real estate forecasts for markets in the southeast region. She
provided in-depth research for institutional investors, commercial banks, and real estate developers. Amber left
the firm as an Associate in 2011.
Education and affiliations:
Amber holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies
from the University of California Berkeley. She is a member of
the Urban Land Institute, CREW, and served as the Co-President of the Northern California CoreNet Young Leaders Group from 2016 to 2017.
Ken Ryan has served as a leader on projects involving complex regeneration/ mixed-use development, large scale master plans, sustainable design, resort/ recreation plans, community participation programs and governmental coordination. Mr. Ryan oversees the firm’s Community Planning and Urban Design Studio.
